On the Opposition Between a Guest and the Rest. For those on the outside, looking in, wishing to take part in the exhibition.

Glass suction cups, painting by an uninvited artist (Laurenz Julian Greuter)
2025

Poor Laurenz wasn’t invited to our exhibition… so I found a way to show a painting of him—without taking up any official space.

A painting from this uninvited artist is hanged with suction cups on the window, outside, facing those already inside. As the title suggest  the artwork is dedicated to those outside, looking in, who wish to take part in the exhibition.

The work was born out of my need to escape the exhibition space. When I found out that Laurenz—a friend of mine and of the show’s organizers—hadn’t been invited, the idea came to life.
I decided to give up my spot in the exhibition to an uninvited artist. His painting, however, would remain outside—under the scorching sun or the light Belgian rain—like someone unwanted, peeking in, hoping to be acknowledged.
